European Mesh Hub

About the European Mesh Hub

Preserving network resilience through continental stewardship

The European Mesh Hub (EMH) is the geographic, non-political umbrella organization connecting national and large-scale regional Meshcore associations. We operate not as a central governing body, but as a collaborative commons where independent national networks align to build a reliable, cross-border radio-mesh ecosystem.

A Clear Separation of Concerns

The Core Principle: People vs. Protocol

Why Human Stewardship Matters

Meshcore is a decentralized technology built on automated data forwarding. However, technology does not organize frequencies, secure site access, manage local legal compliance, or coordinate regional configurations. The human infrastructure must be just as resilient as the digital one. EMH bridges the gap between the software protocol and the real-world deployment across the European continent.

The Federated Model

The Ecosystem Architecture

The European community is explicitly built as a federation of independent networks. EMH does not micromanage local municipalities or individual city nodes. Instead, we structure our ecosystem into three distinct, supportive tiers:

Continental (T1)
Macro-coordination, cross-border standards, global resource sharing, and the centralized Steward Forum.
Managed by EMH Association Stewardes
National / Regional (T2)
Country-wide network mapping, frequency coordination, legal frameworks, and supporting local city clusters.
Managed by National Associations (e.g., Meshcore Switzerland, Meshcore Germany)
Local Collectives (T3)
Deploying hardware, setting up local repeaters, managing city-wide clusters, and onboarding end-users.
Managed by Local City Nodes & Hobbyists

The Operational Challenge: Balancing the Mesh

To appreciate the need for a pan-European hub, one must look at how the underlying network scales. By default, Meshcore utilizes a flooding protocol. While highly resilient, unchecked message flooding across a massive, dense continent would ultimately degrade network performance.

To prevent this, the protocol introduces a "Region" mechanic to limit message propagation.

The Coordination Dilemma

This technical reality is precisely why the European Mesh Hub exists. Association stewards use our private platform to collectively analyze, negotiate, and establish unified guidelines for regional scoping. We ensure that localized networks stay efficient without isolating neighboring countries from the greater continental grid.

Geographic Scope

Europe is Not a Political Border

Radio waves don't stop at political borders. The European Mesh Hub is unconditionally dedicated to the entire geographic continent of Europe.

We operate entirely independent of the European Union or any single state apparatus. Whether an association operates within Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway, or the EU member states, every verified national network receives equal standing, equal representation, and an equal voice within our shared infrastructure.

Now, its your turn!

For End-Users and Local Operators

If you are looking to set up a node in your town or connect with peers, please visit our Regional Hub Directory to find the national organization responsible for your area. They will help you find local frequencies, hardware recommendations, and community guidelines.

For Regional Association Organizers:

Are you currently helping run a country-wide or macro-regional network that isn't represented on our map yet?

We invite you to join the table:
Apply for Steward Access to verify your association and gain access to our private Discourse Forum to coordinate on continental policy, share documentation templates, and link your network with the rest of Europe.
